For years (and years and years) I've been a big fan and constant user of the Microvox instrument microphone system. I've used them on my flutes and whistles through all sorts of PA, from a basic 4-channel amp & two speaker rigs through to high-end professional festival rigs, and have always had consistently excellent results and very speedy soundchecks.
For a few years I've just invested in a pair of concertina mics (having nonsensically resisted the idea of sticking bits of velcro to the 'tina for a long time, and therefore struggled with inappropriate mic-ing systems and poor sound as a consequence) - and I should have known better and bought the Microvox concertina mics years ago.
Yes, the sound quality isn't quite as high definition as you'd get from a pair of SM58s, but Shure M58s can't be attached to the two ends of the instrument and therefore move with the bellows, and the sound is plenty good enough for playing ceilidhs on the most demanding of PAs. And yes there are high-end solutions like the swan-necked rig Jon Boden uses, but compare the prices of those with the Microvox solution.
Dead easy to use, and you don't notice them on the instrument while you're playing.
A completely unsolicited testimonial from a very satisfied customer!
